Au travers d’une sélection d’oeuvres et de créations d’artistes internationaux, The Ghost in the Machine explore la part obscure de L’Eve Future.
Souvent qualifié d’ouvrage de science-fiction anticipant les interactions homme-machine, le roman se fait également amplement le reflet de son époque et de l’engouement pour le spiritisme le magnétisme et autre mesmérisme.
Edison y est présenté à la fois comme un ingénieur, mais aussi comme un puissant magnétiseur. L’andreïde, cette femme robot, premier modèle d’un être dont la perfection se révèle dans son artificialité, semble douée d’une vie propre échappant aux simples lois de la physique comme à son créateur.

« The Ghost in the Machine » explores the links between technology and spiritualism seen through a work of fiction , « Tomorrow’s Eve » by French author Villiers de L’Isle Adam – published in 1886, ten years after the invention of the phonograph.
Featuring Edison as an inventor and hypnotist capable of maintaining in a magnetic sleep one that will come to haunt his electromechanical creation, Hadaly. The novel is a reflection of its time when technology and sciences coexisted with spiritualism and research relating to the beyond.
